ORANA PARK !

Yesterday we went to Orana Park. In the morning we met in the Learning Commons to get ready to go to Orana Park. when we arrived to Orana Park, we got into our groups, I was in Group 1, first my groups or the Black and White Lemurs, then we saw the Reptiles they had, Kody and I tried to find  four Frogs but we failed. The Frogs camouflaged with all the leaves in their enclosure. Then we tried to spot a Gecko it was hard to find. Then we went to see the Keas. The Keas enjoyed landing on us and hurting us in ways we did not like! We went to see the Kiwis but sadly they were not in their cage, but in their place was a Morepork / Owl, did you know the Maori name for an l is Ruru. then we went to see other animals such as the Lions and Cheetahs. I like looking at Rhinos because their horns were big. We also fed some giraffes some branches, their tongues were blue. We also saw some gorillas one pushed another gorilla off elige and it fell luckily it didn't die. The oldest gorilla was 16 years of age and his name was Fataki, Fataki has two brothers, I can't remember their names but I like them more than Fataki. Fataki is scary. Next to the Gorillas were the Orangutans, I liked the orangutans because they were Orange. I like to looking at the antelope because they had long horns and it was really cool. I also like the Chickens because they were really goofy. I liked the experience and would happily go again. it was very fun.

Ella West Visit's

Yesterday Ella West came to Hornby High School, Sadly I wasn't here to see her but I heard a bunch of cool things about her visit. She told us a bunch of facts about herself and we learnt alot from her. It sounded like 7/8AL had a wonderful time with her and it seemed like lots of fun.

Here are some fun facts, Ella West write her books in New Zealand but they get published in Australia so it is alot harder to get noticed, Ella West stole the Night Vision cover off the internet and another author also wrote a book with the exact same front cover. Ella West's book Night Vision won award and award, She  won the young adult section of the LIANZA awards and was the young adult children's choice winner in the New Zealand book awards for children and young Adults. A funny fact is that her mum really thinks shes the mum in all of her books published. Did you know that the book Night Vision has an italian version ( its the exact same just in italian ).

The thing that made Ella West write Night Vision, She watched a documentry about XP ( a genetic disorder ) and It gave her ideas on a cool story, But she had no idea how she was going to finish it, she made it up as she went. Ella West isn't a full time author, She works as a journalist for Southland Times and for some Farming Magazines. The reason she wrote RainFall is becuase one time the Armed Defender Squad was across the road from her house and then she had some fabulous ideas on what to write. Did you know that Ella West writes up to 1000 words a day, so in a week she writes at least 7000 words which is ALOTSo in a year she writes ALOT of words.

Another fact is that Ella West's first book publised was the first book in the Thieves Series. For Ella West she dosen't need quite space, she dosn't get distracted very easily ( which is something I wish I had ). Sadly Ella West's first book she ever wrote professionally never got published ( thats really sad because I would love to read it). Last of all her real name isn't Ella, its Karen Trebilcock. The reason she uses the name Ella West is because if she becomes really famous she can still live her real life and spend time with her family. Here are some photos my teacher took. Overall it sounded like a relly fun time and im sad I missed out.
