Coraline Essay l Film Studies

Coraline is set at the Pink Palace where her and her family live, it is quite boring and dull and is raining a lot of the time. They live quite miserable lifes and don’t get along too well. I think the director has given the movie various different routes the movie could go along which has created a lot of excitement, he also uses quite a weird approach on the movie using a plot that nobody would have thought of. Coraline wishes that she could just leave and her wish does come true as she finds the “portal” to the “other world”.

There she meets the “Other Mother” cooking a breakfast ready made for Coraline. It is a very bright setting with heaps of joy and light. If this isn't already weird enough she has a set of buttons instead of eyes. The Other Mother is very friendly unlike her Mother in the original world and is very joyful, I think the director uses this light to make the watcher think as if they're Coraline and get them thinking that this world is very happy and joyful even though it is the complete opposite. Coraline enjoys a few days at her new found home. After staying in the other world for quite some time she notices a few weird things going on, the Other Mother dramatically changes moods if Coraline doesn’t comply or doesnt listen, hence showing the bad side of her personality and how she is not how she actually seems.

Things gradually get worse and the hints keep popping up that something’s not right it creates a feeling of suspense. The Other Mothers stance first changes followed by the physical attributes and it gets to the point where she doesn't look human anymore and more spider-like, the lighting becomes very dark but also has neon colors incorporated to create a spooky feeling. She starts getting nasty and Coraline is very scared at this point. At some point in the movie the Other Mother (which now looks like a creature from outer space) has taken the key to get out of the other world and Coraline is faced with tasks to get it back, a big part of this is when she has to escape from the cell and save her parents.

The movie is great and has one of the most intriguing plots in a movie, the mixed use of lighting, shots, sound and angles creates a feeling as if you are in the movie and is very thrilling. The build up of the movie creates an influential feeling of suspense which makes the movie just that one bit better. Overall the movie was a milestone in film and should be praised for the creative genius the piece of writing i've written here proves my statement and gives a strong backup towards the statement. I think they should possibly make a Coraline 2 with how good the first was.

Going from a cool, calm, collected person to a nasty, spider-like being is a big change in the story and is the main setup for the action toward the end.

Organs - Science

Hello, in science we have been learning about the digestive organs, and how they work. Ingestion is the consumption of a substance by an organism. In animals, it normally is accomplished by taking in a substance through the mouth into the gastrointestinal tract; such as through eating or drinking. In single-celled organisms, ingestion takes place by absorbing a substance through the cell membrane.

Egestion- Egestion is the act or process of voiding or discharging undigested food as feces. To egest means to discharge undigested material or food.

Digestion-Digestion is the breakdown of large insoluble food molecules into small water-soluble food molecules so that they can be absorbed into the watery blood plasma. In certain organisms, these smaller substances are absorbed through the small intestine into the bloodstream.

x

Absorption-

Digestion is the chemical breakdown of the ingested food into absorbable molecules. Absorption refers to the movement of nutrients, water, and electrolytes from the lumen of the small intestine into the cell, then into the blood.

Teeth-

Food is broken down into smaller pieces in the mouth by chewing. This is an example of mechanical digestion. The teeth cut and crush food, and the pieces are mixed with saliva to form a ball of food called a bolus.

Large intestine -

The large intestine (colon or large bowel) is about 5 feet long and about 3 inches in diameter. The colon absorbs water from wastes

Esophagus -

Anatomically and functionally, the esophagus is the least complex section of the digestive tube. Its role in digestion is simple: to convey boluses of food from the pharynx to the stomach. The esophagus begins as an extension of the pharynx in the back of the oral cavity.

Stomach -

The stomach secretes acids and enzymes that digest food. Ridges of muscle tissue called rugae line the stomach. The stomach muscles contract periodically, churning food to enhance digestion. The pyloric sphincter is a muscular valve that opens to allow food to pass from the stomach to the small intestine

Anus -

The anus is the opening at the far end of the digestive tract through which stool leaves the body. The anus is formed partly from the surface layers of the body, including the skin, and partly from the intestine. The anus is lined with a continuation of the external skin.

Liver -

The liver is an organ about the size of a football. It sits just under your rib cage on the right side of your abdomen. The liver is essential for digesting food and ridding your body of toxic substances. Liver disease can be inherited (genetic).

Rectum -

The rectum is the concluding part of the large intestine that terminates in the anus. The average length of the human rectum may range between 10 and 15 cm. Its diameter can be compared to that of the sigmoid colon (the part of the large intestine nearest the rectum)

Small intestine -

The small intestine or small bowel is an organ in the gastrointestinal tract where most of the end absorption of nutrients and minerals from food takes place. It lies between the stomach and large intestine and receives bile and pancreatic juice through the pancreatic duct to aid in digestion.

Health - Cocaine Research

Over the last 8 periods of health we ( Me and Tamani ) have been learning about cocaine. The reason we picked to learn about cocaine is because cocaine is a serious problem that people severly suffer from. I thought that this could possibly help other people and educate them on why you shouln't use cocaine.

In conclusion I learnt a lot about cocaine and how bad it is for your body and mental health. Just to clear up I do not condone the usage of cocaine.

REFLECTION -

In reflection I liked learning about cocaine. Although it was challenging trying to get all the information and make sure that it was all correct it was also fun. I think me and Tamani both worked quite well due to the fact that we had worked toghether multiple times and were also friends.

Sustainability Essay

The worldwide problem, climate change

Climate change is a major issue that is increasing rapidly. This is not good

because it affects humans, plants and animals. Climate change affects our l

ives, it makes living difficult for everyone from everywhere.

As you can probably tell, Climate change is pretty bad. Sadly us humans are

the reason for it. Deforestation. Humans have been cutting down trees rapidly

over the last 10 - 20 years to clear land for more building, what we haven't

realised is we are affecting ourselves and other living things such as animals

and plants. This affects humans, animals and plants because with the severity

of climate change the weather is extremely bad and it drowns the plants and

ruins the natural food for animals and humans. It also makes living harder like

I said.

Climate change impacts our lives more than you would think. Part of the reason

it may seem really hot could be because of climate change. Drought and insect

breakouts are also related to climate change. There are also some more that

include increased wildfires, Declining water supplies, reduced agricultural yields

, health impacts in cities due to heat, and flooding. Climate change also affects

the air. It can make the air less healthy for humans to breathe.

Luckily there are some things we can do to try and reverse climate change.

Reduce, reuse, recycle. Reduce means to minimize the amount of waste we

create. Reuse means to use something more than once. Recycle means to use

things that have already been used in a different way.

In summary climate change is obviously really bad. But if we start trying to

make a change we will be able to prevent climate change from getting any

worse.

SEXXXY Paragraph

In Coraline camera angles are used effectively. For example a medium close up is used when we see the other mother introduced for the first time. This makes us feel confused as she has buttons on her eyes. The director chose to do this shot so we can vividly see the other mother. This was combined with the lighting to give us a sense of feeling welcomed or at home. This can be compared with the meeting of the real mother because the same angle is used but the colouring was less warm and unfriendly.

How the hand works

In science we have been learning how do hands work, we made a hand to show you how it works. The hand has lots of parts which are Bones, Joints, Muscles, Tendons, and ligaments. These are all the parts that make your hand move. Bones is really helpful for us human because it helps us provide support.

How do hands work? The movements of the hand are always started by the muscles in your forearm. Hands have a lot of things that help human beings one is we use our hand to write or hold something that is heavy or not.

The human hand is made up of the wrist, palm, and fingers and has 27 bones, 27 joints, 34 muscles, and over 100 ligaments, and tendons, and many blood vessels and nerves.

Buisness And Enterprise

In Business we are working on the business that we are trying to create a DLO to present on market day and here is my work.

What we are creating is a game and the game is alot like a drinking game called beer pong but without the beer and all the drinking but our game will be fun because of the amount of cups you need to get in and then when they lose because they suck they would be so drawn in that they have another go at winning.

And the quality of our product would be 100% better than any other company/ Business and that the prize is something that most people cant resist ( the prize being lollies) and we will also have like exclusive items that you could straight up purchase or just win by getting the most.

I think that our game will do well and that people would wanna purchase our product/ game and when people win they are gonna wanna play multiple times.

Pricing:

We worked out our price by seeing how much money we used to purchase what we need for market day (it being $20) and we decided that the price needed to make it so that its not only easy to make profit but at a good stable price and then you can get the offer to also straight up purchase the reward if your not doing good in the game.

We will make sure that the product is good looking like for example when people see our game from afar they will come over because of how high quality our game looks but also it will be good when they come to play it also.

Place:

In business studies we have been focusing around our market day and we have to describe where we are going to set our stand/ Product or game and we need to select  a area to sell our product.

My groups product is a game and we might need to be near a water supply so that we can fill a bucket upto a half way line and we will also need some water to put in cups to insure they don't fly away.

A good location for our group would be a area like in the very front where the most people would see our game so that they can spend all their money on our game.

People would see our game and they would be attracted to come and see our game because of all of the colours around our poster and the cheap prices and cool colours.

I think personally our group will do pretty good because how awesome and fun our game is gonna be.

What am I learning?
I am learning visual and sound techniques used widely in film; why they are important, how they are used and what the definitions of these words mean.

How does this show my learning?
By creating a crossword puzzle I am showing that I know the definition to key words related to visual and sound techniques and show that I am able to teach other people.

What am I wondering as a result of my learning?
I am wondering what are some other things that are also important in visual and sound techniques; and also what are the most important to create a great film.
