Water Cycle

AIM: TO LOOK AT THE WATER CYCLE AND HOW CLIMATE CHANGE IS AFFECTING IT.

Definition: The cycle of processes by which water circulates between the earth's oceans, atmosphere,

and land, involving precipitation as rain and snow, drainage in streams and rivers, and return to the

atmosphere by evaporation and transpiration.

Scientific words:

  • Evaporation. When water is heated by radiant energy it turns into water vapor.
  • Transpiration. Evaporation from plants.
  • Condensation. When water vapor cools, molecules join together and form clouds.
  • Precipitation. When clouds get heavy the water falls as rain, sleet, hail, or snow.
  • Acidification: the action or process of making or becoming acidic.

We will be conducting an experiment that looks at the different ways that climate change is affecting
the water cycle.

THE WATER CYCLE EXPERIMENT

Bag 1: Normal Water cycle
Bag 2: Water cycle with CO2 added: like Oceans in climate change
Bag 3: Water cycle with ice added: like
Antarctica in climate change

Material:

  1.  Plastic bag
  2.  2 drops of food coloring
  3.  Vivid marker
  4.   1 cup of water

Preferably in a group of 2-3, it will make it easier to do.
Steps:
  1.  Someone in your group gets a plastic bag
  2.  Draw/Write all the scientific words and what they mean in a picture
  3.  Get 1 cup of water
  4.  Put blue food coloring in the water
  5. Hang it up on a window that gets sun

Other comments-

1.Water Cycle 1 Had No Acidity.
It Had Had Some Small Drops Of Water.
It Does Cycle.

2.Water Cycle 2 Had Some Acidity.
It Had Some Small Drops Of Water.
It Does Cycle.

3.Water Cycle 3 Had No Acidity.
It Had Some Small Drops Of Water.
It Does Cycle.

Conclusion:

-All The Ways I Done It Ended Up Cycling
-They All Had Water In Them

Charlesworth Reserve Trip

On the 3rd of July 2019 the people that do gardening CIP got to go on a trip to Charlesworth Reserve. Why we went there? So we could contribute to the plants to help climate change/our environment and because it would be a great oppourtunity for us... AND IT WAS! How did we get there? On a bus and two of the schools mini buses/vans.

So when we arrived we ate our morning tea and then we went to the place where we were meant to plant the plants. We got a brief description of how to plant them and that we had to find a buddy to work with, I went with my friend Evan and we got 8 plants done... the plants we planted were called Searush.

Charlesworth Reserve is near Ferrymead and it is on Charlesworth Road. The aim was to plant just under 200 plants but we got around 170-190 which is really good in the time we were there. Once we finished with all the plants we went to a place near the Ferrymead Countdown and started to pick up rubbish that people had left around. there were alot of empty glass bottles and just other random pieces of plastic.

Overall it was quite a fun time and we got alot done, we also found some crabs along the way (when I say some I mean alot!)
Planting some plants

We had an amazing time and if I had the chance I would gladly do it again!

Charlesworth Reserve

Later on this term we are going to Charlesworth Reserve to plant some native plants... but before we go we have to do some research about this place and what plants are already there, plus what animal live there. Here is my presentation/research

Poetry

Lately in poetry we have been making our own poems and I made 2 haikus 1 was about a fly that loves pies and the other one was about NRL Latrell Mitchell and Will Chambers have a fight in a NRL game.

Hope you like my poems.

I picked to do NRL because I like league and Latrell Mitchell is my favourite NRL player.

To me poetry is a fun way to express yourself and overall I liked it.

Climate Change Questions

What is our greatest threat in thousands of years?
l
Too much floodings and overheating to the point where we are not able to live on earth.

How do we see climate change affecting the globe?
  1.  Overheating/ Heat Waves
  2.  Flooding
  3.  Sea Levels Rising
  4.  More And More Storms

What is needed to change history?
l
For us humans to get together and figure out a way to solve this problem because we made this a problem so we have to solve it.

Is climate change a man made disaster?
l
Yes, In the video we watched it tells us that it is. The video Link

Dramatic action must be made in the next years to change it?
l

Why is our climate changing?
l
As the climate warms it is affecting us and we are not going to be able to live as humans.

What is causing the warming trend of the climate?
l

What is the main problem?
l
The heat and floodings are affects us and we are going to realise how much of a problem it is but it will be to late

What are examples of these?
l
Far to hot and the islands are going to be under the water if you don't do something soon and try to fix it.

Burning fossil fuels releases what gas?
l
Carbon Dioxide gets released into the air.

How much hotter now is our world?
l
1.4 degrees fahrenheit hotter than it was in 1880

What do we call this global warming?
l
Climate Change

How is this affecting creatures / animals like bats?
l
drought, storms, heat waves, rising sea levels and others are affecting the homes of animals.

What percentage of species are near extinction?
l
8%

How could this affect the world ecosystems?
l
Higher elevations where temperatures are more conducive to their survival.

What global change was seen and recording breaking last year?
l
Overheating

How is climate change affecting our weather systems?
1.  Storms
                                                                  2. Flood’s
                                                                  3. Sea levels rising

What is another effect of climate change?
l
Heatwaves

What will happen if the ice melts in Antarctica and the Arctic?
l
The sea levels will rise and will get rid of our islands

How does this affect people?
l
It will make it challenging to live on earth

What other things affect oceans change?
l
Pollution and public dumping
What does too much heat do to the coral?
l
Can kill the coral

Why did some industries not want to stop burning fossil fuels?
l
Because it releases bad gases into the air

Night Vision

Lately we have been reading a novel called night vision so I had to do some activities based around it.
So today I am publishing two pieces of my work for you guys to see...
Hope you enjoy!
